Ride to Work Day planned
NZPA
Hundreds of motorcycle and scooter riders are expected to take part in the MTA Motorcycle and Scooter Ride to Work Day on Friday.
The promotion was launched last year by the Motor Trade Association (MTA) to demonstrate the growing popularity of motorcycles and scooters and to celebrate what is becoming a way of life for many thousands of New Zealanders.
Events this year will take place in six regions and include free breakfast snacks, prize draws, giveaways and information on rider training.
New and used import motorcycle sales have grown from 4000 units per year in 2000, to just under 20,000 units in 2008.
"As New Zealanders look for ways to save money and help the environment, motorcycle and scooter sales have significantly increased over the past decade, and there is now a new breed of commuters that are growing every day." said MTA spokeswoman Ana Zandi.
Events will take place in Wellington, Palmerston North, Tauranga, Gisborne, Kaitaia and Oamaru
