Hundreds of classic bikers from around the world have descended on Christchurch for the 47th International BSA Rally.

More than 250 lovers of the classic British BSA motorbike have arrived from the United States, Australia, Germany, Holland and Britain.

The bikers yesterday toured the Summit Rd on the Port Hills to Gebbies Pass and will travel to Akaroa along the high road tomorrow.

Rally committee chairman Peter Burroughs said it was a fantastic sight to see so many bikers riding together along the Summit Rd.

"You could see this long line of bikes snaking through the hills," he said.

The rally, which is held outside Europe every fourth year, will finish on Friday with a gala dinner.
