It’s a high performance BMW, but not as we know it – because you’ll be doing the legwork.

Beefy disk brakes, special suspension, sleek proportions and “astonishing speed” are all hallmarks worthy of a BMW wearing the famous M badge.

But for this one it’s you doing all the work, and not an engine. BMW has pulled the wraps off an M-powered bicycle built around an anthracite frame that weighs a smidge over 12 kilograms, or about the same as a six-month-old child.

The wild child of the BMW bike division, however, features a highly geared Shimano SLX gear system that the car maker says delivers “astonishing speed” for the rider.

“Anyone who rides this sporty speed bike through the city or takes a short tour through the countryside will immediately attract a lot of attention - at least for a few seconds,” the company says.

Comfort doesn’t fall short, with a leather saddle featuring red inlay.

The BMW M bike goes on sale in Europe from June for a price that is yet to be revealed.
