Sat-nav voices - who should we use in NZ?

Last updated 13:56 12/08/2010

Blessed

Royal Shakespeare Company star and former Z-Cars actor Brian Blessed, who had a new lease of life on Blackadder, is set to become Tom Tom's new Sat-Nav voice.

Blessed is doing this in response to a Facebook campaign asking for the public's favourite potential voiceovers for the Sat-Nav company. Thousands counted the actor as their favourite.

He now joins Hank Azaria's Homer Simpson and John Cleese's Basil Fawlty as preferred voices.

What we need in New Zealand is a Paul Holmes voiceover.

Of course, we could always use Sue Bradford's voice and never get there at all, or we could have Chris Carter and blame it all on everyone else.

Maybe ace blogger David Farrar could be used. But we'd need a windscreen wiper on the INSIDE if we did.

Sir Ed would have been great, but it's a bit late now. Steve Hansen wouldn't work: I can't understand a lot of what he says even when I'm lip-reading!

Willie Lose has a nice voice, but his grammar would probably disqualify him, and if it was Murray Deaker, too many people would simply sit behind the wheel, stationary, and argue with him.

Do you have some favourite voices for use in Sat Nav, and some good, preferably entertaining reasons?

Hank Azaria does Apu and a zillion other Simpson's characters, but Dan Castellaneta does Homer Simpson's voice. Heathens!

Rhys Darby would be hilarious!

Ewan Gilmore, Bob Parker, Bill and Ben, Toni Marsh, David Fane, Dai Henwood, Maggie Barry - I could go on - depends on the mood you are in and if you have a preference for gender, but I think I have covered a decent range of demographics there, og and of course - Myself.

Thingee.

Homer Simpson is voiced by Dan Castellenetta, not Hank Azaria!

I think ex Childrens Television presenter "Thingee" would be a good one. Whatever happened to him anyway? I guess the puppet was getting a bit old. Hopefully the voice talent for Thingee is still around! "Turn Right at the next Roundabout Jason!"

@ Leon #1. I now have to clean rice wafer crumbs out of my keyboard. :-p

Billy T James would have been amusing. Possum Bourne would have had it in the form of rally pace notes. Peter Blake would have had a red sock on the bottom of the unit.
