Some of the more zany celebrity baby names bestowed in 2015 include Lara Bingle and Sam Worthington's son Rocket Zot, Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross' daughter Jagger Snow, and Zoe Saldana's twins with Marco Perego, Cy and Bowie.

Jeff Montgomery, Registrar-General of Births, Deaths and Marriages, said the top 100 names made up only a small proportion of all names given to babies, with the wide range used often reflecting the importance of family heritage, personal choice or the influence of popular culture.

Though the overall use of Google for baby name inspiration is trending downward, parents in Taranaki and Southland were most likely to turn to the search engine for inspiration.

Boys' names were slightly less likely to be Googled, reflecting the preference for more traditional names.
