Santa is stockpiling Lego and radio control vehicles for Kiwi kids this Christmas and has even found room in the sleigh for 1500 trampolines, says Trade Me.

Lego and building toys were the most purchased new toys overall in the past 45 days, followed by radio-control vehicles, die-cast metal cars and vehicles, models and dolls, the site said.

By value, trampoline sales were leading the way – with 1500 new toys bought in the past few weeks, followed by radio control vehicles and ride-on toys.

Women were snapping up Lego and building toys, dolls and die-cast toys in particular, while men were shopping for radio-control vehicles, models and die-cast toys.

South Islanders were spending slightly more on average than North Islanders, with Southland shoppers favouring wooden toys, Timaru and Oamaru members snapping up radio-control toys and Marlborough members buying lots of model toys.

Dolls were a favourite with Taranaki shoppers, while radio-control toys were a hot item for Bay of Plenty buyers and Whanganui Trade Me members had sought out kids' arts and crafts.

Trade Me's Paul Ford said things were busy but it appeared its online Christmas shopping rush would hold off to December as usual. Trade Me is owned by Stuff publisher, Fairfax.
