Surf instructor proposes while couple ride English river wave upstream
Many marriage proposals happen at places significant to the couple. But who knew that would be while surfing up the River Severn between England and Wales.
That's what 32-year-old surf instructor Pete Abell did when he got down on one knee on his surfboard to propose to marine biologist girlfriend Angie de Burgh, 30, while the pair rode the Severn bore in the Bristol Channel.
The spot holds special significance to the couple because it is where their love of surfing brought them together in 2013.
The Severn bore is a tidal bore seen on the tidal reaches of the River Severn in southwestern England. It is formed when the rising tide moves into the funnel-shaped Bristol Channel and Severn Estuary and the surging water forces its way upstream in a series of waves.
