TOTES INAPPROPES': Mrs Lynne Spears' gown (left) is a touch more walking down the aisle than it is mother of the bride.

You know that rule about not wearing white to someone's wedding?

"WELL, STUFF THAT!" is what Jamie Lynn Spear's mum might've said when she threw on a suspiciously bride-y gown at her own daughter's wedding. Granted, the two dresses aren't EXACTLY the same. Mum's dress is shinier!

Fans were bemused when they saw a picture of the mother and daughter duo posted on Instagram by I Do Bridal Couture, accompanied by the following caption:

"It's official ya'll! @jamielynnspears is now Mrs. James Watson! We are so happy to have been part of this celebration of love. The beautiful bride, Mrs. Lynne and sweet Maddie all wore custom gowns by @liancarlodesign. More pics to come! Xo"

While for others, it was more of a clear-cut faux pas: "Why is her mum in a bridal gown?? I'd be p-ssed off if anyone wore a dress like that at my wedding"

The bridal company explained that Lynne Snr is not in a bridal gown, but "an evening gown by the same designer". Apparently her dress was a blush colour with silver lining, "it's just hard to see in this pic".

Okay, fair enough. Guess you can say the Valencia filter makes everyone's dresses 'bride-ier' than they are in real life.

Or, as wise observer mkonkol21 points out, "She's the mother of the bride! It's a special day for her also."

Either way, it's definitely #awks.

What do you think? Totally fine or just weird?
