Blushing bride Alissa Gilmour put her own little twist on an old family tradition when she arrived at her beach wedding on the back of a Clydedale horse.

Gilmour, nee Wilson, married in the Auckland suburb of Orewa just like her parents, grandparents and great grandparents did before her.

The horse was her idea.

"We were very lucky to have access to one of my favourite ponies, Clyde, who normally resides at the local Riding for the Disabled centre," she says.

Husband Matt Gilmour comes from Christchurch and the pair have a four month-old daughter.

Orewa plays a special part in Gilmour’s family history.

Her great grandparents Alice and Edward Eaves settled there in the early 1900s and have a road and reserve named after them.

The newly weds also plan to shift to the area later this month.
