Kimberley Sullivan, 24, and Samuel Mathews, 25, were married on March 9, 2012 in West Auckland. The Auckland couple - she works in PR and he's an accountant - first met six years ago.

How did you meet? "We actually met on a night out," Kimberly says. "It was a Wednesday night and it was in a bar that neither of us had never been to before.  We had a mutual friend who we both happened to be talking to, and it just went from there. We went on a date about 10 days later and have barely been apart since."

Tell us about the proposal: "It was the first week back to work after summer in 2011, and Sam was off for an extra week. Little did I know he was planning a romantic proposal the whole time, while I was getting annoyed that he wasn't doing enough chores at home for someone who was on holiday!" she says. "On Saturday January 15 he surprised me with breakfast in bed, then whisked me away to Waiheke - all a surprise. Somehow I didn't know what was coming this whole time, but eventually when we settled for a picnic on the beach he gave me a beautiful scrapbook that he had been working on, with photos of us on every page, and 'Will you marry me?' on the last page. He had the ring there, it was perfect and I cried a lot!  We headed back to Auckland a few hours later to celebrate with friends and family."

Location of wedding: Cassels in Swanson, West Auckland. "We spent a weekend looking at venues and this was one of the last ones we saw. There wasn't much deliberation, we fell in love with it and had to have our wedding there. One of the main drawcards was that it had a great area for an outdoor ceremony but also a perfect undercover option if we needed it (which we didn't luckily). They provided all the decorations and everything that was so classy and perfectly matched our day."

Describe your wedding day: "It was a week after Auckland had a 'weather bomb' and I was a little nervous for the rain.  But it was perfect weather and the day just flew by!  We spent the night before apart and I spent the morning with my bridesmaids flying around getting our hair and makeup done (by Durham Hair and Phoenix Cosmetics)," Kimberly says. "Before we knew it, it was time to get dressed and then the photographer was there to get the 'before' shots and we headed off to the venue.  I was very calm as we arrived and I managed to not cry as I walked down the aisle with my dad by focusing intently on where I was going!  The photos did reveal a few tears in the boys' eyes though. The ceremony seemed really quick but it was amazing and before we knew it we had signed the register and were walking back up the aisle with petals flying all over us. The food was amazing, the speeches were absolutely perfect and made me cry a lot, and our MC and friend Nathan kept the night together flawlessly.  It was an amazing day and we spent our first night as a married couple in the Pullman Hotel."

The dress: "My dress was off the rack from Kate Dowman. She made it for fashion week in the previous year, and I saw it in the window as I drove past one day and just had to try it on. After trying on a few dresses that I thought were what I wanted, this was definitely the one I had to get.  Everything about it was perfect.  The girls wore beautiful dresses from Forever New."

The flowers: "The bouquets were by Victoria at Flowers by Nosh.  The bridesmaids had Something Special roses which matched their dresses and I had the same with some cream in there too.  The boys also had Something Special roses.  The venue provided the centrepieces which were floating Something Special roses."

Highlight of the wedding: "Probably the speeches!  The father of the bride, mother of the groom, the groom and the best man did speeches and they were so perfect.  The reception was a lot of fun and the photos show what an amazing time we had."

Was there any drama? "I really couldn't say that there was any drama.  It went so smoothly - which was amazing!  But our hosts at Cassels looked after everything and we had an amazing wedding party to keep us going."

The honeymoon: "Eleven amazing nights in Hawaii.  It was so perfect - six nights on Waikiki and five in Maui, swimming with dolphins and turtles and seeing whales. Definitely a recommended honeymoon destination."

Your photographer and favourite photo?  "Our photographer was Shamima from Angela Scott Photography.  She was fantastic and really listened to what we wanted. We're so happy with the photos and can't wait to put our album together!  [I] probably can't choose a favourite, but I do love the photos with the whole wedding party in them."
