A local pub may not be the first place that springs to mind when picturing a romantic rendez-vous, but 30-year-old Aimee and her future husband 31-year-old Steve, met during a weekly pub quiz and haven't looked back since.
Five years down the line and the two enjoyed a romantic on-camera proposal followed by a stunning wedding with their nearest and dearest.
We'll hand the reins to Aimee to fill you in on the rest...
How did you meet? I was invited by a mutual friend to join a Wednesday night 'pub quiz' team. I went along and Steve was a member of the team, he had just got back from living in Canada so it was good timing! It was a couple of months later that I started to fall for him (and unknown to me he was feeling the same way), so I bit the bullet and asked him out. Five years later we got engaged.
Tell us about the proposal: It was my 29th birthday and I had just got home from work. I was rushed after a busy day and knew we had dinner plans, so I was in a huge hurry. I walked in the door and noticed the coffee table had been moved to beside our fire place, and it just so happened to have roses and chocolates on it. My first thought was 'oh Steve must be cooking for me instead of us going out' as he always had nice surprises planned on my birthday, then he walked around the corner in his suit and I noticed he had the camera set up. He went and got the camera going before proposing in front of it - and we have lots of cute photos to remember the day by.
Location of wedding: Cornwall Park, Auckland.
Describe your wedding day: Amazing! The weather was perfect, everything went so smoothly and it was great to see so many friends and family, and of course marry my Steve! We couldn't have picked a better venue either, it was just such a buzzy day.
The dress: White (hehe) and flowy with beaded straps that went down the middle of my back.
The flowers: Lots of bright colours which matched the different colours of my bridesmaids' shoes. Mine were white with diamantes in them.
Highlight of the wedding: There were too many highlights but I especially loved Steve's vows. The speeches were awesome and the ceremony was amazing - the entire day was a highlight.
Was there any drama? Not really. Our beautiful vase with our personalised M&M's broke at 11pm the night before which was a bit of a stress, especially as my mum blamed herself and was really upset. But we got a new vase and saved the M&M's, so it was all good in the end.
The honeymoon: We went on a trip to Thailand. Koh Samui and Koh Tao were both amazing - it was the most relaxing holiday ever.
Your photographer and favourite photo? Kelly Newland did our amazing photography. It is very hard to choose our favourite as there are so many, but one sticks out to me: a black and white photo of us at the top of One Tree Hill somewhere. It's a close up of us sort of cuddling with an amazing view of the Sky Tower in the background. We used this for our thank-you cards.
