Stuff's wedding of the week

Monique and Kori have known each other since primary school, but waited around a decade before they started dating. Their South Island wedding was a truly blissful day. We'll let Monique tell the story ...

How did you meet? I have known Kori since primary school and we kept in contact over the years and started dating when we were about 18.

Tell us about the proposal? Kori proposed to me at my 21st, Kori is very shy so he took me outside away from the party and got me to sit on his knee and said how much he loves me and how he wants to spend the rest of his life with me and asked me to lift up his shirt where his friend had hid the ring and then asked me to marry him. We announced it when the speeches at my 21st happened, which was very cute.

Describe your wedding day: Our wedding day was perfect! We had it out at Grandview Gardens in Outram, Dunedin. It was in the back garden, and there was beautiful weather and everything went so well.

The dress: My dress was from Tracey at Elite Bridal Wear in Fairfield, Dunedin. Tracey was fantastic, she didn't put on any pressure to buy anything, and my dress was great but not perfect so I got some more ruffles put on it.

The flowers: My flowers were from Rebecca Cameron Flowers: she was awesome and dropped them at my house in the morning and to Kori. The bridesmaids and I had white lillies and the groomsman had white roses.

Was there drama? No, my day went perfect, the only thing I could say that went wrong was my maid of honour had the job of letting a sign down on Kori's wheelchair after the ceremony that said just married from Speedy Signs. She forgot it until we were about half way down the aisle.

The honeymoon: We went to Christchurch for a few days and stayed at a five-star hotel and just relaxed and went shopping.

The photographer: We had Ray from McRobie's Studio. He was fantastic and was very enthusiastic and knew how to make us smile and was great at coming up with ideas for photos of me and Kori.
