When you wake up to freezing temps and little light, we know how hard it is to pull yourself away from the warm sheets to exercise. But as the saying goes, you snooze, you lose. Exercising in the morning jump starts your metabolism, energises you for the day and can significantly increase mental acuity.
So, in order to jump out of bed before you hit that button, get prepped the night before with these 10 quick tricks.
1. Get to Bed Early
Be sure to hit the hay eight hours before your alarm's set so you're prepped and full of energy the next day.
2. Schedule a Gym Date
Make yourself accountable by scheduling a gym date with your friend and popping it into your calendar: that way you won't only be letting yourself down if you hit snooze.
3. Prepare a Snack
If a full breakfast isn't your thing, make sure you prepare a light snack to munch on for energy, or just keep a stock of bananas in the kitchen. One of these will rev you up plenty for your workout.
4. Pack Your Gym Bag
Before you head to bed, make sure you've packed your gym bag and laid out your clothes so they're ready to slip on first thing. That way, if you're tempted to sleep in, you'll be all, 'oh, but then me having packed my gym bag is a waste'. It sounds miniscule, but these tiny things can be the difference between getting up and not.
5. Make Your Alarm Upbeat
Mozart isn't going to get you out of bed, so set your alarm to an upbeat tune. We recommend a bit of S&P: sleep just feels weird after listening to this tune.
6. Put Water by Your Bedside
Drinking a glass of water first thing will energise and refresh your body to get you going.
7. Prepare a Motivating Mix
Music is the best motivator in the morning, so create a great playlist that you can look forward to listening to and that will fight fatigue as you workout.
8. Put Your Alarm Across the Room
Set your alarm and put it across the room so you actually have to jump out of bed to switch it off. Annoying, yes, but foolproof.
9. Leave Yourself a Note
Write down a few sentences about what motivates you, so that in the morning you having something to remind you why it's so important to your wellbeing that you get out of bed.
10. Prepare a Cup
Coffee can stimulate your brain and ease stress caused by lack of sleep, pushing you into workout mode. Prep all your coffee ingredients the night before or if your machine has a timer, set it to go off the same time as your alarm. Zing!
