Jan Taylor's husband jokes his wife is only half the woman she used to be. Technically, he isn't wrong — in the past 12 months the Wyndham woman has lost a whopping 61.6kg.

Tipping the scales at 132kg at her heaviest, Mrs Taylor, a teacher at Newfield Kindergarten, now weighs 69kg.

The weight loss took her just shy of a year and saw her not only dropping kilos but also dress sizes — she used to wear size 30 clothes, now she buys size 10.

The chirpy 43-year-old, who now fits into her 13-year-old daughter's clothes, credits her success to the Weight Watchers programme and support from friends and family.

She has now been nominated as a contender for the Weight Watchers Slimmer of the Year Awards.

A naturally organised person, Mrs Taylor said the structured pattern of the Weight Watchers points programme was perfect for her lifestyle.

Writing down everything she ate, along with portion sizes, made it easy for her to see exactly how much she was consuming.

In fact, it was writing her food down that proved the biggest eye opener for her — her portion sizes used to be the same as her 190cm-tall farmer husband.

Takeaways were on the family's menu at least three times a week and healthy options such as fruit and water were rarely consumed, instead being replaced with fat-laden roasts and copious amounts of coffee.

Approaching her weight loss in 5kg increments, her first goal was to hit 100kg. She was ecstatic to weigh in at below 100kg, then 90kg and finally at under 70kg.

While she now does her grocery shopping more often and her food bills have increased slightly, the health benefits had far outweighed the financial cost, she said.
