Colin Farrell credits "green tea and s**tloads of vitamins" with keeping him healthy.

The 36-year-old actor has a history of hell-raising after battling addictions to drugs and alcohol but has overhauled his lifestyle to stay in shape for his work and family.

"I don't put the same level of energy into healthy living as I did into unhealthy living. I put an enormous amount of energy into the destruction of my body and if I put the same amount into treating my body in a positive way, that too would end up being a sickness," he told the September issue of British magazine Men's Health.

"But I eat really well, drink loads of green tea, and take a s**tload of vitamins."

Farrell said becoming a father allowed him to overcome his personal demons and be a better person.

"I did a two-mile jog every day, an hour of weights, every day, six days a week, for about three months before we started. And I'm somebody who a couple of years ago couldn't even run a mile," he said.

"What my first son James did was allow me to care for something in this world when I couldn't care for myself. James saved my life. I have two beautiful sons and when I'm not working I see them a lot. Life has mutated to take on this sweet simplicity that I am really f**king ok with."
