I am the owner of The Chic Party Boutique which is an online store specialising in quality, personalised party stationery.
I created this business a few years ago and run it out of my home office.
I am married with two girls aged 10 and 12.
Now they're a little older, they don't need quite as much of my time, which has made things a little easier.
So essentially this means my work hours are while they're at school, and in the evenings once they're in bed, although I do try not to do this all the time.
Parcelling up and sending orders, answering emails, personalising and creating designs, bookwork, website design all gets done in between housework, cooking and cleaning and other household chores.
No wonder I'm always tired! Finding a balance is really, really tough.
Trying to get everything done within those few hours can often be a challenge, and some days (like today), I've not managed to do any web design work or stationery design work at all.
That'll mean I'll either have to work tonight or twice as hard tomorrow.
On the upside though, my girls had cross-country at school yesterday.
And because I work from home, I got to go along and watch. That was awesome.
I am sure there were a lot of parents not there who no doubt would have wanted to be. So I consider myself very fortunate indeed.
So no, the myth of waking when you feel like it, answering emails from the couch etc is just that, a myth. In my case anyway.
But I love what I do, I wouldn't change it for the world.
