A Palmerston North man has found himself in trouble for sending sexual text messages to a married woman.
In the Palmerston North District Court yesterday, Adam Charles Barnett, 24, pleaded guilty to misuse of a telephone.
According to a summary of facts, Barnett sent no less than 23 messages to the woman between March 22 and April 11 this year.
The victim told Barnett she was only 12-years-old in an attempt to stop the messages, but he did not.
When Barnett tried to call the victim, she got her husband to answer the phone and tell him to leave her alone.
Defence lawyer Jacinda Younger said Barnett was under the influence of synthetic drugs while offending.
Barnett thought the woman he was sending the messages to was someone else who he had a casual relationship with, Younger said.
Judge Gregory Ross said he did not accept Barnett's explanations for the text messages.
"You had been told by the woman and her husband that you were calling the wrong number. People should be free from this kind of unwanted communication."
The judge sentenced Barnett to 75 hours' community service.
