A shopkeeper had his face slashed with a knife during an armed robbery in Palmerston North on Sunday night.
Two men entered the mini market on Rangiora Ave about 7.15pm and demanded money and cigarettes from the male shopkeeper.
Detective Sergeant Simon Harrison said the one of the offenders slashed the shopkeeper on the left cheek with a knife.
"He was assaulted very early in the piece. He was taken to hospital but wasn't required overnight.''
After taking an unknown quantity of cigarettes, the offenders left the store and drove away in a white four-door vehicle.
A third offender was believed to be driving the vehicle, which left in the direction of Palmerston North city.
One of the offenders was described as about 183cm tall with a strong, athletic build. His face was covered and he was wearing jeans.
The second offender, who also had his face covered, was shorter than the other man, and was wearing a black jersey and blue jeans.
Anyone with information can call the Palmerston North police station on 06 351 3600 or the anonymous Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
