Passengers of a vehicle towing a caravan on State Highway 1, north of Otaki, were initially trapped, after the car swerved off the road and rolled down a bank.

Emergency services reached the scene about 12.56pm Saturday, after reports that the vehicle had gone off the road and down a small bank, on the main highway.

Four adults and two children were freed from the vehicle shortly after the car rolled by members of the public. No one was injured.

Police were at the scene until the car and caravan were removed.
