Another fire at the Esplanade in Palmerston North has police hunting the arsonists.
The fire was lit at the children's playground overnight and was discovered by a cleaner at 7.30am today.
A cleaning cupboard by the toilets at the playground was broken into and a fire lit inside. It was still smouldering when it was found.
It was the second fire at the playground within the last few weeks, and the third fire in the area since the beginning of last monthntsI June 2nte.
On June 16, the playground was targeted, leaving a chair and rubbish bin with minor damage.
The fire did not take hold and was discovered by a security guard.
The nearby Twin Turfs complex had two hockey goals set alight on June 2.
The goals are at the southern end of the fields, and the fire damaged the goal posts, nets and astroturf.
Police believed all of the fires could be linked.
Acting Senior Sergeant Phil Ward said police were at the scene this morning.
"It could show a pattern of behaviour,'' he said.
He said it was worrying to think there was a group of offenders repeatedly targeting an area where children played.
