A mid-winter high will dominate the weather throughout New Zealand this week but Palmerston North should still experience some overcast conditions.
MetService meteorologist Daniel Corbett said the high would bring mostly dry and settled conditions.
"Although it's mid-winter, the settled weather expected for much of this week makes it possible to get outdoors, which is always a bonus in school holidays.
"Just be sure to wrap up warm.''
Despite the high, some cloud was expected in Palmerston North this week, he said.
Tomorrow would start off cloudy and then become fine, with light winds.
There should be similar conditions on Thursday, including northwest winds.
"From about Thursday, strengthening northwesterlies over the South Island should bring rain to the West Coast,'' Mr Corbett said.
"We're expecting Friday to be a windy day on the east coast of the South Island and around central New Zealand.''
There was an upside to strengthening northwesterlies, Mr Corbett said.
"Daytime highs in eastern areas should reach the mid-teens on Thursday or Friday.''
