A man is in police custody after taking to Child, Youth and Family’s headquarters in Palmerston North with a small club.
Police were called to the building on Church St at about 2.45pm today after the man entered the building.
Witnesses said he smashed windows and a computer with a small club.
It is not yet known if anyone in the building was injured.
Bystander Karina Wishnowsky said police told the man to drop the weapon, which he did after being warned a Taser would be used against him.
About eight police officers went to the scene.
The office has been closed for the day.
