A Palmerston North shopper took a nasty knock to the head as she exited through a shop's front doors today.

A woman was taken to Palmerston North Hospital after a falling object struck her on the head as she left Main St's Davis Trading store about lunchtime.

Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) were called in to investigate because the accident happened on a commercial site, Palmerston North Sergeant Terry Karatau said.

The object had fallen from a spot where tradesmen were working on the shop's front door and witnesses said they saw the woman drop to the ground.

Police and an ambulance arrived quickly and she was taken to hospital.

Sergeant Karatau said a call to the hospital confirmed the woman had suffered no major injury, and she was being kept for observation only this afternoon.
