A 60-year-old Taumarunui top dressing pilot is in Waikato Hospital with serious spinal injuries after crashing on take off.
The Rescue Coordination Centre said the man had been working on a remote farm near Taumarunui and the crash at the end of the runway had been witnessed by the farm owner.
The centre said the plane’s emergency locator beacon had gone off at 5.15pm. The Taranaki Rescue Helicopter arrived at the Waitaanga Rd location one hour later.
Taranaki St John’s operations manager Ian May said the man was treated by paramedics then taken to Waikato Hospital by helicopter at 7.30pm.
