A 68-year-old woman has walked away unscathed from rolling her car into a ditch near Shannon this evening.

LATEST: Sergeant Phil Grimstone, of Levin, said she was driving south towards Wellington when she veered off the side of road, rolling the vehicle and ending upside-down near the intersection of Marinoto Rd and State Highway 57, three kilometres outside Shannon, about 5.10pm.

There was no alcohol involved, or concerns of speeding, and enquiries into the what caused the crash were continuing, Mr Grimstone said.

Ambulance and fire services were called but the woman was treated at the scene before being released to family.

Her blue sedan was ''written off'' and Mr Grimstone said the woman was ''very, very lucky'' to walk away uninjured.
