A 17 year old has died in a car crash on a rural Manawatu road.
Jayden Parkinson, of Sanson, was killed after the car he was driving crashed into a ditch filled with water.
Police were called to Hurst Rd, between Sanson and Bulls, about 8am yesterday when a member of the public spotted his vehicle.
It was upside down and partially submerged in a ditch on the side of the gravel road.
Senior Sergeant Kris Burbery said police enlisted the help of a nearby farmer with a tractor to lift the black Mitsubishi from the water.
It was then that they discovered the occupant, whom the fire service later cut from the car.
The vehicle is believed to have been travelling in the direction of Wilson Rd when the crash occurred.
It was unclear what time the crash occurred, but the vehicle was cold when it was found.
"It would have been almost impossible to see in hours of darkness," Burbery said.
The Serious Crash Unit was investigating, and one of the questions they had to answer was when the crash occurred.
No other vehicles were believed to have been involved.
"It's tragic a young person has, for whatever reason, lost his life in a crash and it's just very sad," Burbery said.
The death has now been referred to the coroner.
