Police are hunting for an armed offender after a robbery at Foxton Beach.

Police central communications Inspector Mike Coleman said a man entered the Foxton Beach Four Square about 7pm and produced a shotgun.

CCTV footage showed the man running from the shop with cigarettes and cash from the till, he said.

The store owner and one staff member were in the shop at the time, but there were no customers.

There were no injuries, Coleman said.

Police were still searching for the man who was dressed in black and wearing a balaclava.
