A Palmerston North woman's face could be plastered in supermarkets throughout New Zealand next year.

Former Miss Teen Manawatu Bronwyn Hughes, 19, has been named as a finalist in the search for the inaugural Kiwi face of new cosmetics company Collection, a United Kingdom brand available only at Countdown supermarkets.

The competition required contestants to take their best "selfie", with no duckface poses allowed.

The Massey University student entered the competition on a whim after Palmerston North internet sensation Shannon Harris, of YouTube video blog Shannnxo, mentioned the competition on her Facebook page.

"When I saw the competition I thought I might as well give it a go, I've done something similar before."

The top 10 were announced this week.

"It would be incredible, it would be life-changing to be the face of a makeup brand," Hughes said.

The winner will feature in Collection Cosmetics' advertisements and will receive a professional photo shoot to be featured in Cleo magazine's October issue, plus a year's worth of Collection cosmetics.

Hughes, who is studying a Bachelor of Science majoring in human nutrition and minoring in sport and exercise and communication, said she thought her background in health may have helped her. She said the the judges weren't just looking for a pretty face - they wanted a role model, too. Harris and Cleo editor Danielle Lagos were the judges.

Now there's a public vote to pick a winner. To vote visit the Collection Cosmetics' Facebook page.
