A Dannevirke man killed in a motorcycle crash will be farewelled on Thursday.

Hamish "Gooon" John Gore, 30, died after crashing a Honda CR250 motocross bike about 12.45pm on Saturday.

The motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the accident, which occurred on a straight piece of road on Grant St near Dannevirke High School, police said.

Tararua CIB Detective Sergeant Shane Brown said it appeared Gore lost control of the bike.

He is not believed to have been wearing a helmet.

An investigation into any other potential contributors to the crash was under way, and police were taking statements, Brown said.

A service for Gore, a husband and father of three, will be held on Thursday at The Hub in Dannevirke.

Those who knew Gore expressed their shock on Facebook.

"You left too early cuz! Watch over your beautiful kids from where you are. You are going to be sadly missed. The funny memories will always live on though," Jodie Gore wrote.

Do you have faith in police solving burglaries?

Yes - there's no faulting their commitment.

Mostly, but they are under-resourced.

Sort of - depends on when and where.

Not really - clearly a low priority for them.

Absolutely not.

Not sure - luckily I've never been burgled.
