Malcolm Plimmer has won the National Party candidacy for Palmerston North, beating off Chamber of Commerce chairman Paul O'Brien, city councillor Vaughan Dennison and Irish entrepreneur Eliz McGuinness.

Mr Plimmer believes his 2005 campaign experience will help him put up a strong fight to win the parliamentary seat for the National Party next year, he says. The FMG life insurance agent starts campaigning full-time today..

"It's far more winnable this time," Mr Plimmer says, conceding incumbent Labour MP Steve Maharey was "a hard nut to crack".

Overkill - targets moderate drinkers, not the heavies

Still too little - make it zero tolerance.

Sensible - punishment is in line with lesser breaches of limit.
