Bikers revved up over ACC levies

Who's next? was the question put to Palmerston North shoppers by frustrated bikers.
They roared in on their bikes on Saturday in protest against the Government's decision to increase ACC motorcycle levies.
Under recent changes, mopeds 50cc and under will pay $129.24; motorbikes up to 600cc will pay $327.70; and bikes over 600cc will pay $426.92 in registration.
As part of the motorcycle levy, $30 will now be committed to injury prevention.
Concerned biker John Howarth is asking who will be the Government's next target? "The aim of the protest was to make the public aware that it's not just motorcyclists who have been hit, other sectors are facing increases, too."
The 11 bikers had a petition with 110 signatures asking to have the levies lowered.
