A man who raped a girl in public toilets was jailed for five years and seven months in the Palmerston North District Court yesterday.
The 18-year-old Dannevirke man was charged with two counts of rape after giving himself up to police after the December 16 attack.
The 15-year-old girl was an acquaintance of the man and had seen him earlier that day. They had also been texting each other before meeting at the duck pond in Dannevirke, the court was told.
During the prolonged attack the man filmed the rape on his cellphone but it only recorded black images. He later deleted it. Judge Grant Fraser gave the man credit for his early guilty plea, remorse and youth. The man cannot be named as it could identify his victim.
