Students and marketing experts are stepping in to freshen up Palmerston North's Student City brand.
Student City representatives decided this week to enlist a marketing company and students to run the organisation.
Hannah Pratt, who has been Student City co-ordinator for two years, departs next week.
Vision Manawatu chief executive Elaine Reilly confirmed Student City Concert and Student City Arts Week will remain on the calendar but there is uncertainty over smaller events.
Students' experiences in Manawatu will remain "absolutely critical," she said.
Under the changes, students could volunteer or become interns for Student City, shifting responsibility from one co-ordinator to a group.
"We'll look at company capabilities, student capabilities and the combination of both of those," Mrs Reilly said.
Student City is run by the Integrated Education Guardian Group (IEGG), which is made up of education and city council representatives.
IEGG chair Sandi Shillington said marketing would be balanced between attracting students to Manawatu and ensuring students' experiences were positive.
"We wish to build on the success so far and create a strategic marketing plan that both underlines our commitment to Student City while also refreshing our proposition.
Massey University Students' Association president Karl Pearce said he was happy student events were continuing.
"We are looking forward to further student involvement in delivery of outcomes for students by students."
Manawatu Chamber of Commerce spokesman Paul O'Brien said Student City added to the city's vibrancy and ensured success in the region.
Student City's annual budget remains unchanged at $220,000.
IEGG will be gauging interest from marketing companies this month.
