Models are often better known for diva-like behaviour, hitting people over the head with cellphones and carrying contraband through customs in their luggage.
So mild-mannered Colin Mathura-Jefree comes as a welcome change – plus he thinks Palmerston North is great.
Here to be master of ceremonies for The Plaza opening yesterday, Mr Mathura-Jefree said the people of Palmerston North were too humble about what they had.
"This is a great city, I can't believe that people don't see how great Palmerston North is. You're so friendly and have a wonderful attitude."
The New Zealand's Next Top Model judge also complimented the locals on their fashion sense.
"The style seems to be very relaxed and comfortable, but still very fashionable."
An avid shopper, Mr Mathura-Jefree insisted on getting to town a day early so he could get in some retail therapy himself.
"I had a good look around and bought some bits and pieces."
Clad in black jeans and an Emporio Armani burned velvet jacket, which he allowed Mayor Jono Naylor to try on, the former model admitted he was a bit of a label snob, but was was more than happy to share some fashion tips.
"I'm all about lines and silhouette and I'm a big fan of the military look this year for women.
"Guys should wear something bright to draw attention, but not be too over the top. A bright scarf to lighten up a dark suit is ideal."
Mr Mathura-Jefree gave the new shopping complex the thumbs up saying that it was as good as any he had seen overseas.
"It's gorgeous and very posh."
