Renal patients display skills

Showing off hidden talents is the concept behind Palmerston North Hospital's Renal Unit Art and Craft Show.
Pieces by renal patients, their families and renal staff will be on display at Palmerston North Library next week. The displays will include artworks such as framed drawings, knitting and embroidery.
A highlight of the display will be Rona Walker's handmade porcelain dolls.
Mrs Walker has been making dolls for 24 years and she said she had lost count of how many she had made.
She said the display was a great opportunity for renal patients to express themselves.
"There are a lot of clever people out there who don't have the chance to show their skills and talents. It is a great opportunity for people to show that you can be a renal patient and continue doing the things you enjoy in life like having hobbies and interests."
She was diagnosed with renal failure and began dialysis 3 1/2 years ago. Due to the fatigue she suffers, she had to give up travelling around the country as a doll making teacher, but she still teaches the craft from home.
The display runs from March 22 until April 6.
