The 29-year-old Palmerston North man found dozing in his car with drugs was not granted bail yesterday.

Gerrard Nicolaas Praat pleaded guilty this week to four drugs charges, including possession of methamphetamine and one count of driving while disqualified.

Police found Praat sitting in the driver's seat of a car parked at Paneira Park at the bottom of Maxwells Line, with the engine running on April 12.

Judge Michael Radford refused bail and remanded Praat in custody to reappear on June 8 for sentencing.

The Palmerston North man's criminal history began in 1998, and includes a six-year jail sentence imposed in 2004 for dealing methamphetamine, and a host of firearm charges.

The lower drink-driving limits from December are:

Great - too much carnage on our roads.

Overkill - targets moderate drinkers, not the heavies

Still too little - make it zero tolerance.

Sensible - punishment is in line with lesser breaches of limit.
