MP slams 'attack' on services

Palmerston North MP Iain Lees-Galloway says the city's economy is being undermined by Government cuts to the public service.
"The dynamic mixed economy in Palmerston North has traditionally been one of our strengths," he said.
"Under this Government, the public sector seems to be nothing more than a target for populist sound bites.
"Our local economy is being deliberately undermined and the real effect of that is that our community is hurting."
Mr Lees-Galloway made the comments after Massey University shut down enrolments for summer school earlier than usual after exceeding its funding cap. He said that was a "symptom" of the Government's "attack" on public services.
Mr Lees-Galloway said MidCentral Health had been forced into job losses and Palmerston North businesses should be wary of the Government's defence review.
"When the Government starts slashing the public sector, it hurts the private sector too."
