A man claiming he was sexually abused by his teacher says he felt like a prostitute after swapping sex for car keys to go and buy takeaways.
But the sexual encounter was not consensual, he told the High Court in Palmerston North yesterday.
A male teacher is on trial for historic sexual abuse allegations against two teenage boys at an Auckland school in the early 1990s.
The names of the complainants, teacher and school are suppressed.
One night in early 1994, the boy, now aged 34, went to see the teacher about a subject he was having difficultly with.
The door was ajar, the light was on and after knocking on the door the boy went into the room and sat on a chair.
The teacher began massaging his neck and shoulders while talking to him.
"I was apprehensive but I had a certain level of trust that it was a kind gesture.
"When the door closed I did tense up, he told me `it's OK you need to relax'."
He moved to the teacher's bed and lay on his stomach.
The massage became more vigorous and he started to get aroused, the jury of six men and six women was told.
The teacher opened a bottle and placed it under the boy's nose which made him feel "warm" and "fuzzy".
As he lay in a "jelly-like" state the teacher removed his clothes while giving a full body massage that included touching the boy's genitalia.
"I said this is not f ... right but he had assurances that what he was doing was OK and I needed to relax."
When the teacher dropped his pants and stood at the end of the bed where the student's head was he said: "I know you want it, I know you will enjoy it."
The boy performed oral sex on the teacher.
Afterwards, it took the boy a few minutes to compose himself before finding the energy to stand up and leave.
His body felt heavy and relaxed from whatever was in the bottle, he said.
A few weeks later the boy was in the teacher's room again to ask if he would drive the boy and his friends to get takeaways. The boy sat in the chair with the door shut and the teacher massaging him.
They ended up on the bed with the teacher performing oral sex on him and the boy reciprocating.
Afterwards the teacher gave his car keys and the student got takeaways.
The man decided to make a complaint in 2007 to police after seeing the teacher on television.
The teacher is facing two sex charges for the first encounter between the pair.
At the time of the incident the man had not had any sexual experience.
He had two girlfriends before realising in his early 20s that he was gay, the court was told.
The complainant agreed with defence lawyer Paul Mabey QC that he had swapped sex for the keys.
"That was one objective," the man said.
He also wanted to protect a third-former, he said.
Mr Mabey suggested the first encounter was consensual because the boy was aroused and the second encounter never happened.
But the man stuck to his resolve: "I did not give up anything freely, he took it, there was no consent."
The teacher is also facing two sex charges relating to an alleged incident in 1990 when he performed oral sex on a 16-year-old former student.
The man, now aged 37, gave evidence at the first day of the trial on Monday before Justice Robert Dobson.
The boy had returned to the school for the annual gala day. He got drunk and stoned at the disco and fell asleep on the rugby field, he said. The student and teacher ended up in an office on a mattress when the alleged encounter took place.
The man laid a complaint with police in late 2002 while an inmate at Manawatu Prison after seeing the teacher on a television programme.
When the teacher was interviewed in early 2003, he denied the sex allegations.
The trial is expected to run until tomorrow.
