Hometown heroes Evermore are returning to Feilding to help rock away the shock from the town that has been through so much.

After hearing about the recent tragic events in the Manawatu town, the three-piece band that shot to international fame with their hit song Running is flying home to play the Small Town, Big Heart concert.

The event was organised by More FM host Mike West, who said he was keen to see the people of Feilding have something to celebrate.

"After the last three deaths we just decided, enough was enough," he said.

"We thought about what we could do, and we're a radio station so it made sense to put on a concert.

"We thought we'd try Evermore, on the off-chance they would want to help out and they said `yes' right away."

The musically talented Hume brothers – Peter, Jon and Dann – jumped at the chance to fly back from their new base of Melbourne to give hope to the town in need.

"They wanted to do something for Feilding but didn't know what," Mr West said.

"So when this concert came up they were delighted to be able to help."

Air New Zealand has also rallied to the cause and will fly the band for free from Melbourne to Palmerston North for the concert.

Other entertainment, including local bands International Rescue and Tom will also perform.

Evermore's last gig in the region was in February in Mangatainoka for the Tui Small Town, Big Sounds concert.

The Feilding concert will be held at Manchester Square from 1pm to 5pm on Sunday, September 12.

If it is raining then it will be held at the Feilding Civic Centre.
