A Feilding sickness beneficiary accused of the brutal murder of Marice McGregor has been ordered to stand trial next year.
Dean Richard Mulligan appeared in Whanganui High Court yesterday charged with the murder of 45-year-old Ms McGregor.
Appearing before Justice Simon France, Mulligan was given a start-date of May 23, 2011 for the murder trial, which has been set down for four weeks.
In the meantime Mulligan, 42, has been remanded in custody to reappear in the High Court in October.
Ms McGregor, who was also a sickness beneficiary, went missing on April 19 and after an extensive search, her decomposing body was found on May 12 in a deep ravine off the Whanganui-Raetihi road – sparking a massive police hunt for the killer.
