Buckethead leader sought for fan group
The Manawatu Bucketheads need a new leader and they're turning to social media to find the right person for the job.
The gang of rugby supporters have launched a hunt on Facebook for a new head bucket for the Manawatu Turbos upcoming ITM Cup season.
Spokesman Aaron Viles said that prospective leaders could be nominated on the Bucketheads' Facebook page.
"The ideal leader will have exceptional people skills, be popular with students, have average grades, know how to wear a bucket, and simply love the Turbos," he said.
The three most popular nominees will argue their case at a Palmerston North bar next month before a vote to decide the winner.
The Bucketheads were founded in 2006 by Opiki spud farmer Dom Moleta.
Mr Moleta had been looking for something to wear to the Turbos' opening game of the season, found a green bucket and as the cliche goes, the rest is history.
The number of bucket-wearing fans at Turbos games has since grown to the point where green buckets are as synonymous with Manawatu rugby as the cow bell is with Waikato or empty seats in Auckland.
