Biker hurt crashing into tree

A teenage mountainbiker was airlifted to Palmerston North Hospital on Saturday after falling and crashing into a tree.
The crash occurred in Woodpecker Forest at the end of Kahuterawa Road, south of Palmerston North.
The mountainbiker broke a leg and a wrist.
Another rider rode out and raised the alarm.
A St John advanced paramedic and search and rescue members were flown to the top of the track and walked down to the accident site.
A team of police and volunteer rescuers also walked up from the bottom to help carry the stretcher.
The patient was stabilised at the scene and then carried down the track to the waiting helicopter.
He was flown by The Square Trust rescue helicopter to the Palmerston North Hospital emergency department for treatment.
