A 17-year-old man says anger and alcohol made him punch an ambulance multiple times on a Palmerston North road, and smash the windscreen of his girlfriend's car.
Corey Pratt pleaded guilty in the Palmerston North District Court yesterday to a count of wilful damage and another of possessing a knife in public.
Prosecutor Shelley Watson-Hughes said Pratt was drunk and in the middle of the street about 1.50am on January 5.
An ambulance drove past and he began punching it. When police caught up with Pratt, he was found to have a steak knife in his pocket, which he said was "for his protection".
He told police he punched the ambulance because he was angry.
The man also smashed the windscreen of his girlfriend's car on the evening of November 24 after an argument between the two. He was remanded on bail until February 23 for sentencing.
