A woman whose body was found in an alleyway by a school in Marton has been named.
She was Maria Teresea Proctor, 58, of Marton.
Ms Proctor is believed to have died of natural causes.
Her body was found by a cyclist riding through an alleyway opposite Marton School on Hereford St at 8.24am yesterday.
The cyclist performed CPR at the scene, but Ms Proctor could not be revived, a St John spokeswoman said.
The cyclist left before police arrived.
Acting Sergeant Paul Johnson said the death was not thought to be suspicious as the woman was believed to have died of natural causes.
The death was initially suspicious because of the location of the woman and Whanganui CIB were called in to investigate.
The death has been referred to the coroner.
