Pair in court over car yard armed robbery
Two men accused of holding up a Palmerston North car yard at gunpoint have appeared in court, much to the relief of a shaken car salesman.
A rally car was taken from Rose City Cars at the corner of Grey and Ngata streets about 5.20pm Monday, with two men allegedly threatening salesman Bruce Herbert with a gun. In Palmerston North District Court yesterday, Dylon Robert Sergent, 25, of Sanson, and Palmerston North furniture remover Ableshy Te Hau Kaiora Peti Gore Walker, 22, each appeared facing an armed robbery charge. Walker was also charged with driving while disqualified. Neither man entered a plea and both were remanded in custody until next week. According to court documents, the stolen car was a Subaru STI valued at $36,995.
Away from court, Mr Herbert said he felt more comfortable now arrests had been made.
"I wasn't particularly worried about what they might do to me, but I was worried about what they might do to somebody else or what they might do in the car, as it's pretty fast." The car was with police for finger-printing.
