The Whakarongo scout den in Kelvin Grove is being scouted by property investors.
The hall has not been in use for more than a year since the Whakarongo scout group disbanded. Scouts New Zealand, which owns the property, has decided to put it up for auction.
The Whakarongo group had only six members left when it closed; its fundraising and membership fee money could not pay for the rising costs of rates and especially insurance premiums, which had doubled in the past two years.
Scouts Manawatu River Zone leader Alan Lockett said it would be a reluctant sale. He has tried to revive the club, with no luck.
The auction starts at noon on Wednesday, September 12 at the LJ Hooker office on Broadway Ave, Palmerston North.
