Conditions are improving on the Desert Road after reports of snow and poor visibility early this morning.
LATEST: Police advised drivers to take extra care on the State Highway 1 road after receiving reports of 2cm-deep snow about 4:45am.
By mid-morning, Waiouru constable Bruce Francis said the weather had improved considerably, with some sleet and snow showers continuing, but not enough to close the road.
The snow was not settling on the ground and conditions were expected to keep improving, he said.
