A Palmerston North house was under police guard this morning after a suspicious fire was started overnight.
LATEST: The Fire Service was called twice to the Farnham Ave address, the first time about 3.30am, after the front room of the house caught fire.
Acting senior station officer Royce Tatham said the fire, in the front room of the house, was ‘‘definitely suspicious’’, and police were called in.
Palmerston North police senior sergeant Brett Calkin said police were guarding the scene when the fire took hold again.
Fire services were called back to the house shortly before 6am.
Mr Tatham said the second fire was started by an ember that had made its way into another room.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation and police detectives were at the scene this morning.
