A 5.5 magnitude earthquake near Taupo has been felt in many parts of Manawatu.
GeoNet recorded the shake at 12.42pm today 10km north-east of Taupo, at a depth of 108km.
Manawatu Standard readers reported felling it in Palmerston North, Foxton, Levin, Norsewood and Feilding.
Sue Buckley said the jolt felt "scary" in Feilding.
"I was upstairs sitting on a chair and felt the floor move and house rock," she said.
The initial report said the quake was a 5.1, but that was quickly upgraded to a 5.5.
