Emergency services at Otaki River incident
A whitebaiter has died after falling in to the Otaki River.
Sergeant Slade Sturmey said the elderly Otaki man was white baiting on the northern side of the Otaki River mouth with friends when he fell into the water as he was getting his whitebait net.
His body has been removed from the scene for a post mortem examination. The coroner will decide the cause of death.
Inspector Ian Harris said the man had been found by a member of the public about midday.
CPR was performed by emergency services.
